“iPhone 4S comes in either black or white for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) for the 16GB model.” I am sure when it lands it will cost us more than 60k. What is it that makes them so expensive here in Kenya?

One reason is the Lack of an Apple store in Kenya therefore the resellers rip customers off. Second, most Kenyan consumers think that an expensive electronic device is a sign of affluence. Third, Kenyan IT sector is obsessed with “corporate Market” (read corruption)

Orange Kenya had the postpaid option with the iphone 4. Ksh 20,000 gets you the iphone, plus 5k a month for 48 months. They might do the same with the 4S, but do the maths at the end of the day it’s not really WIN-win. This is the model guys in USA are used to.
