Orange has partnered with Equity Bank to offer customers a money transfer service called “Orange Money”. Pitting it as the most versatile service in the market so far, Orange says that their “Orange Money” combines the features of mobile money transfer products and mobile banking. The product is not new as it will be powered by Equity Bank’s mobile money transfer. 

Kenya Data Networks Activates KPLC’s Over the Power Line Fibre

Kenya Data Networks (KDN) has activated 4 X 64 STM 64  (39,000 Mbps) on the KPLC fiber optic network on the Nairobi-Mombasa power transmission line. This was done at an annual cost of Kshs 194 Million to KDN. KDN received an acceptance certificate from its contractor Alcatel Lucent who activated the fiber optic cable from Mombasa and Nairobi. This allows KDN to give customers diverse routes.

CCK Signs MoU to Increase Access to Information

Commissions Commission of Kenya (CCK)  has signed an MoU with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) and United Disabled Persons of Kenya (UDPK) in support of the creation of a Web Portal for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) to provide relevant content to persons involved in the disability field. This initiative is part of the Ksh35 million project that the Commission.

Safaricom clients with lines on 0718, 0719 and some 0722 numbers have not been able to originate nor terminate calls after some cable cuts around Museum Hill area. The CEO has promised that the engineers are working round everything (not the clock) to get the problem rectified. The problem has been bad in Nairobi with minor disruptions upcountry. In May 2009 The EastAfrican reported that MTN had acquired 60% of UUNET Kenya. In the same year Standard reported that MTN was eying the then Econet Kenya and now Essar Kenya. Nothing much came from the news with no denial nor confirmation. The former seems to be true now that UUNET is now branding as MTN Business Kenya. It will be interesting to know what was in the deal but MTN must have.
